In 1973 Honda made a foray into motocross and set their eyes on Gary Jones to debut the Honda CR250, dubbed "The Elsinore".
Jones was a charter member of Team Honda, racing a CR250 Elsinore alongside older brother DeWayne and Marty Tripes in 1973, the squad’s inaugural year. His brother DeWayne posted a finish of second place behind Gary at Texas’s Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch.
Towards the end of the 73' season, Gary went onto ride Honda production bikes that were prepared by the Jones' and garnered another AMA championship.
Gary raced at the famed Talladega Speedway and took first in the 250 AMA National in 1973.
